Bobby Adekanye scored twice as Liverpool U23s produced a superb display to beat MTK Budapest 5-2 in the opening game of their pre-season tour of Hungary on Tuesday evening.

Also on the mark for Neil Critchley's side were Toni Gomes, Jordan Williams and Nathaniel Phillips.

The young Reds were well looked after by their superb hosts and the Academy consider it an honour to have played at their Hidegkuti Nandor Stadion, which only opened last year.

Reflecting on the win, U23s boss Critchley told Liverpoolfc.com: "This was an ideal game for us from the stage we are at in pre-season.

"We played in a fantastic stadium with lovely facilities and we were well looked after by our hosts at MTK Budapest.

"They were competitive and aggressive and although we didn't start well we went on to have some really good moves and long spells of possession.

"Overall we are satisfied with the performance but as ever there are things to work on with the lads."

Liverpool U23s: George, Whelan (Coyle), Hart, Phillips (Parker), Jones (Masterson), Williams, Virtue (Alves), Brannagan, Gomes (Adekanye), Dhanda, Kane.
