Jürgen Klopp believes Adam Lallana will benefit from being named in England's squad this week, while the Liverpool boss has backed Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to impress following his international recall.

Lallana and Oxlade-Chamberlain were included in the Three Lions’ party for their upcoming friendlies against the Netherlands and Italy on Thursday, along with club-mates Jordan Henderson and Joe Gomez.

An injury-affected season has meant Lallana has not played for his country since last June, while Oxlade-Chamberlain was omitted from England’s squad for their fixtures with Germany and Brazil in November.

Oxlade-Chamberlain’s impressive form at club level has earned him a recall from Gareth Southgate, though, while Lallana’s return to fitness has led to his inclusion in the national team’s latest squad.

Reds manager Klopp is supportive of both players’ call-ups and revealed he discussed Lallana’s with Southgate prior to the squad being named.

“In an ideal world we work together with the national team and that’s what we do in this case, 100 per cent. Adam had probably the most difficult season so far of his career but he is still [one of the] top three or four players of England, 100 per cent,” Klopp said.

“We’ve struggled because it was a really big injury, a ruptured tendon [and that’s] unlucky but big as well and it needed time.

“We try to use him and I spoke to Gareth this week. For us it’s a big challenge to have him around and not to bring him [on the pitch] to be honest because maybe in the moment he needs a little bit longer.

“It’s not because of age or whatever, from all other points of view he’s in fantastic shape, but he needs a little bit more recovery time, stuff like that, and we needed all to learn and deal with that.

“I told Gareth that I don’t know what we’ll do for the weekend but he will be fit next week 100 per cent, so if he wants to invite him, you’re welcome, if you want to play him, you’re welcome. So he is ready to play football, obviously, but our job is to use him as often as possible and if we can do it, prepare him for the World Cup as well, so he will be fit in the summer.

“That’s only too late for the season, but from his point of view I’m pretty sure everything will be good again. If he could play minutes [for England], of course that would help us and him.”

Meanwhile, Klopp stated that Oxlade-Chamberlain’s recall is fully deserved.

“I would’ve invited him if I would be the English manager but it’s not my job,” he said.

“I think Alex played and developed a lot here and so it makes absolute sense, he’s a top, top player without a doubt. Hopefully it stays like that, he’s fit and he can help England a lot like he can help us a lot.”
