Jürgen Klopp and Billy Hogan have detailed their gratitude and support for Pepijn Lijnders, Peter Krawietz and Vitor Matos, who will be leaving their Liverpool roles at the end of the season.

Alongside the announcement that Klopp has decided to step down as the Reds’ boss when 2023-24 concludes, it was confirmed Lijnders, Krawietz and Matos will also vacate their positions in the summer.

Lijnders arrived at the club in 2014 from FC Porto, initially working as a youth coach in the Academy before later taking on duties with the senior team and then becoming assistant manager.

Krawietz followed Klopp to Anfield upon his appointment in October 2015, also serving as assistant manager, after they had previously worked together at FSV Mainz 05 and Borussia Dortmund.

Matos, meanwhile, was recruited in the role of elite development coach by Liverpool in October 2019, also joining from Porto.

“I will take the break, but the other boys are open and ready, let me say it like that,” said Klopp of the trio at a press conference.

“If somebody is ready and if somebody can say that then it’s me. They are ready.

“The impact the boys had over the years, and especially the impact Pep had in the last few years on the football we play, is second to none and it’s absolutely incredible.

“I know that I have to be very thankful and grateful to him. And I am, I am, because he gave me a new vision and helped me develop over the last years. I’m pretty sure I could help him a little bit as well, that’s the idea when you work that closely together.

“So, they will go for it and I will support it from wherever I am and will follow it closely and will enjoy that a lot, because I know there’s a lot to expect from the boys.”

On whether the club sought to retain Lijnders, Krawietz and Matos, chief executive officer Hogan said: “From an overall perspective, the decision that was taken at the time: number one, I think Pep and Vitor want to get going in their managerial careers and that’s something we understood as well.

“Obviously they will go – they’re not going today – they will go with our support and anything we can possibly do to help their career going forward, we’ll of course do.

“The team that Jürgen has built is an incredibly strong one but there is also a huge team around that group as well that will be here to help in terms of that experience level as well.”
