Joel Matip and Lucas Leiva are winning their respective battles to be fit for Liverpool’s Premier League clash with Crystal Palace at Anfield on Sunday.

Neither player took part in full training at Melwood on Friday as Jurgen Klopp cranked up preparations for the visit of the Eagles.

Matip and Lucas worked away from the main group with the rehab staff but they have made sufficient progress to boost their chances of lining up against Sam Allardyce’s side.

Ragnar Klavan, who has had treatment for a minor knee ligament problem, was also back working outside having missed last weekend's win over West Brom.

Klopp revealed on Thursday that Matip and Lucas were both suffering from “muscle problems” sustained at the Hawthorns and hadn’t trained since.

If they prove their fitness then Matip will start alongside Dejan Lovren at the back with Lucas likely to operate in the holding midfield role.
