Liverpool give up on deals for Alisson and Oblak
Liverpool have conceded defeat in their transfer pursuits of Jan Oblak and Alisson, reports say.
The Reds are chasing a new goalkeeper. Roma stopper Alisson and Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Oblak had been identified as Liverpool’s top two targets, but transfer fees have proven as issue.
The Mirror claim Jurgen Klopp will now take time to reassess his options after telling the club to not pursue deals for Alisson or Oblak.
Roma want a fee upwards of £70million for Alisson, and are refusing to budge after selling Mohamed Salah to Liverpool last summer for just £40m. Salah went on to have a record-breaking season at Liverpool and is now regarded as one of the best forwards in the world.
Klopp did not want Liverpool spending a monster fee for either Oblak and Alisson and said the club could cool their interest in the pair.
FC Koln’s Timo Horn and Southampton’s Alex McCarthy are unlikely to make the cut, as Liverpool have been told by their respective clubs they are not for sale.
Liverpool fans have been alarmed to read Liverpool may now look to Burnley duo Tom Heaton and Nick Pope, but Klopp is refusing to panic so early in the window.
And the German is not ruling out giving reserve stopper Danny Ward the chance to compete with Karius for the No.1 jersey.
